Born in London, England, and raised in Grenada, Ms. Nyack Compton is an experienced attorney in practise for over 25 years, with a local and international client base. Specialising in prime real estate, Corporate, Business, Probate, Wills, Copyright and Trademarks and General Practice, she has extensive working knowledge of the real estate and commerce sectors in Grenada and is a respected community and business leader on the island.
Ms Nyack Compton holds a Bachelors from Howard University, in Washington DC, USA, Juris Doctor and Masters in International Law from Georgetown University in Washington DC, USA, a Certificate of Legal Education from Hugh Wooding Law School, University of the West Indies, and a Masters in Agribusiness from Kansas State University, in Manhattan, Kansas, USA.
In the United States she has been admitted to the bar in Maryland, New York and the District of Columbia and is a member of the American Bar Association. In the Caribbean, she has been admitted to practice in St. Lucia and Grenada and serves as a Notary Public in Grenada.
Currently, Ms. Nyack Compton is serving as the Honorary Consul of India to Grenada, and President of the Indo-Grenadian Heritage Foundation and has previously served as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Grenada Board of Tourism, Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors of the Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA), Chair of the National Wear Committee of the Ministry of Culture and President of the Grenada Organic Cocoa Farmers’ Co-operative Society Ltd.
However, her passion is a family business that she transformed and revived, Belmont Estate, located in the northern country side of Grenada.
As owner and Managing Director, she diversified this historic plantation into an award winning, premiere agri-business enterprise, offering organic products, a local restaurant and tours, a goat dairy, and an artisanal chocolate factory that produces organic “tree to bar” dark and milk chocolates. The business is also a social enterprise, that includes a non-profit that Ms. Nyack Compton founded, The Belmont Foundation, with a focus on education for children, environment and community.
Ms. Nyack Compton has received awards in the areas of entrepreneurship, environment, sustainable tourism, community and organic farming, and include awards from the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce, The Caribbean Tourism Organization, and other local and international organizations. She was awarded Businesswoman of the Year in 2013 by the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and is the first Grenadian and first woman to receive the Anthony N Sabga Awards for Excellence Award for Entrepreneurship (2017).
Shadel is a graduate of the DeVore program and spent many hours under the guidance of Ophelia DeVore. She proudly asserts that the grooming and training received at the DeVore program and personally from Ms. DeVore helped to develop her entrepreneurial, negotiation and social skills and improved her self confidence tremendously.
